The Wall Street Journal asked cooking experts to weigh in on The Best Dutch Ovens for Every Type of Home Chef.

My Dutch ovens were in constant use while writing The Unofficial Yellowstone Cookbook. Happily, I was able to share some of my experience with Hannah Selinger and the The Wall Street Journal.

For this guide, I also spoke with four experts, all of whom were experienced cookbook authors, stylists and recipe developers with extensive experience using Dutch ovens: Ali Rosen, television host and author of “Modern Freezer Meals” and “15 Minute Meals”; Rachael Narins, author of “Cast Iron: The Ultimate Cookbook”; Kara Mickelson, owner of Styled Delicious, a boutique culinary-focused business; and Jackie Alpers, food photographer, recipe developer and author of “The Unofficial Yellowstone Cookbook.” All offered insight into the best attributes of a Dutch oven, what brands I might seek out for testing and what kinds of tests might be appropriate to help narrow the playing field.
