The bread dates back to the time of the Spanish conquistadors, who used the heart-shaped bread as a stand-in for pre-existing Aztec rituals.

with Mango-Lime Granita.

“The name raspados comes from the word “raspar,” which means “to scrape.”
The treat’s construction process involves shaving frozen snowy flakes from a giant block of ice into a cup, then saturating it all with fruit and juice and/or sweet-and-sour #Chamoy syrup. Salty-sweet #tamarind candies are often sprinkled on top of that. Giant blocks of ice are hard to come by, but I realized that you could use the method for making granita and get similar results in your home freezer. A granita is juice combined with sugar, and then frozen and scraped. Yesterday they announced that they are closing after almost 30 years in business. Sad to see them go. This hot dog is so good. It's a far cry from the S This hot dog is so good. It's a far cry from the Sonoran hot dogs we all know and love but it's still Sonoran in nature.  A jumbo hot dog is topped with roasted corn, mayo, lime and spices and served in a top-cut, whole grain bolillo roll.

Split a *bolillo roll across the top and stuff with the hot dog of your choice. Toss roasted corn kernels with a little mayo and lime juice (or use the recipe for street corn from my cookbook Taste of Tucson: Sonoran-Style Recipes) and spoon the corn over the hot dog, then top with oregano, chili powder, crumbly Mexican cotija cheese & hot sauce. Decorate with a squirt of mayo. * Note: Bolillos are a slightly sweet variation of baguettes that may have stemmed from the French invasion of Mexico #tasteoftucson #newcookbook #streetcorn #hotdog #sonoranfood #sonoranhotdog #jackiealpersphotography

If you make the strawberry-habanero infused tequila recipe from @theparishtucson today it will be ready in time. It makes a mean margarita or straight up sipper.  Don’t have strawberries right now? That's OK, just sub out some other red berries.  No habanero ? Use serranos or jalapenos or ghost chilis or any fresh chiles. #Tequila is a necessity though.
